The Chimera project was already invited to the acknowlegded videaoart-festival last year. The Present Satellite-program continues the concept, while also showing new tendencies and artists int he field of video-art. By the involvement of the topic of Graffiti this satellite-program espouses the basic idea of the festival, that is: „highlighting Video Art’s constantly evolving means of expression” (Allen Siegel).
The international selection puts graffiti and Video Art in one frame. It exhibits Films and Video-works that record and interpret graffiti with their own means. Normally people meet graffiti on the street and see only the result. The action itself is unseen, secret and illegal. Tough to the graffiti protagonists the action itself is of key importance. To a wholistic vista of the graffiti, grasping the action and its performative character the Film and the video is useful.
The Selection, as the subtitle indicates, «From Documentation to video Art» introduces a wide range of films on graffiti. Among them, there are films developing totally new approaches, relying on the shapes of graffiti and with using basically artistic treatments and reflexions. The exhibition of the Cimera-project is a careful selection with the above described conception, which observes the graffitii in a wider context, in its cultural, performative, aesthetic, historcal aspects and in its impacts.
